Dr. Nabil Philips: Director, Psychiatrist & Principal Investigator
Dr. Philips is a psychiatrist certified by both the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology, as well as the Royal College of Physicians & Surgeons of Canada. He is also certified by the American Board of Independent Medical Examiners (CIME). His expertise is psychopharmacology and cognitive & behavioral therapy for anxiety and mood disorders. Dr. Philips obtained his medical degree from Ain Shams University in Cairo, Egypt, and completed his psychiatry residency in Neurosciences at the University of Tennessee. His sub-specialty is in anxiety and mood disorders, obtained at the University of Toronto.
Dr. Philips is the head of the anxiety and mood disorder center in Mississauga. Dr. Philips has been active in teaching for the last 25 years, lecturing psychiatrists, general practitioners, mental health professionals, students and the general public. In 1989, Dr. Philips was awarded the Best Teacher award by the medical school students of the University of Toronto. Dr. Philips has also been active in research & development. He has been a principal investigator (PI) for over 50 clinical trials in the area of anxiety and mood disorders over the last 20 years.
Administratively, Dr. Philips held the position of Clinical Director of Adult Psychiatric services at Credit Valley Hospital from 1996 - 2014.
Dr. Naveen Dayal: Psychiatrist & Sub - Investigator
Dr. Dayal is a psychiatrist certified by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario. Dr. Dayal obtained her medical degree from Bangalore Medical College in Bangalore, India, and completed her psychiatry residency at the University of Saskatchewan. Dr. Dayal is an assistant professor for the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Toronto. Dr. Dayal is also active in the field of research. She has been a principal investigator (PI) and sub-investigator (SI) for 11 clinical trials in the area of mood disorders and anxiety.
Currently, Dr. Dayal is a consultant psychiatrist for the Day Hospital Program and Addiction and Concurrent Disorder Program at Credit Valley Hospital in Mississauga.
Louise Balan: Clinical Research Coordinator/Registered Nurse
Louise is a registered nurse certified by the College of Nurses of Ontario and Registered Nurses Association of Ontario. Her in-depth knowledge is in Mental Health, with over 20 years of experience in; assessments, care-planning system navigation, and health outcome monitoring. For over 15 years, Louise has conducted clinical trials with a thorough understanding of the research and development process. Her excellent organizational skills have allowed her to implement clinical research studies while maintaining a safe environment, recognizing that participant's health and well-being take precedence over all other interests.
Ruben Machado: Clinical Research Coordinator
Ruben is a clinical researcher and certified chemist by the Royal Society of Chemistry. He obtained his Bachelor degree in biochemistry from the University of Toronto and helped to design epilepsy sensors at Toronto Western Hospital for seizure studies. Recently, Ruben completed a Masters degree in Clinical Pharmacology from the University of Aberdeen in Scotland, working with neurologists to design treatments for patients with spinal cord injuries.
Delphine Lenet Fernandes: Administrative assistance and coordinator
Lenet is a medical office administration professional with a diploma in Medical Office Administration from Sheridan College, Mississauga. For the past 10 years, Lenet has worked as a medical secretary for physicians in the field of mental health as well as clinical trials in the area of anxiety and mood disorders. Lenet has years of experience working with personal healthcare information and is well acquainted with the Personal Healthcare Information Privacy Act (PHIPA).
